Description
Painted in Babinda in 1988 during the height of Heinz Steinmann’s career. Swiss-born (1948–2025), Steinmann was one of Far North Queensland’s leading landscape painters. Over more than fifty years, he created works inspired by the region’s tropical beauty. Between 1972 and 1982, he was based in Port Douglas and exhibited at the Holdsworth Gallery and Philip Bacon Gallery in Brisbane. Rainforest Creek, Babinda references the Babinda Boulders — a lush rainforest area featuring granite boulders and creek waters seven kilometres west of Babinda, one of Australia’s wettest towns and close to Mount Bartle Frere and Mount Bellenden Ker.
